About
Massimo Messori is a leading figure in the development of advanced shape-memory polymers, with a particular focus on semi-crystalline networks and their applications in 4D printing. His research centers on creating materials that can reversibly change shape in response to thermal stimuli without the need for external mechanical stress—a phenomenon known as the stress-free two-way shape memory effect. Messori’s major contributions include pioneering the use of poly(ethylene glycol)/poly(ε-caprolactone) (PEG/PCL) semicrystalline networks to achieve this effect, as detailed in his highly cited 2022 work (42 citations). He has also developed a one-dimensional phenomenological model (2018, 35 citations) to predict and design these behaviors, bridging theory and application. Notably, his 2024 paper on 4D printing of crosslinked polymer networks introduces a novel material extrusion approach for fabricating structures with reversible two-way shape memory, opening new avenues in smart manufacturing. With over 100 citations across his key works, Messori’s research is driving innovation in stimuli-responsive materials, offering transformative potential for biomedical devices, actuators, and adaptive structures.
