About

Masanao Segawa is a pioneering researcher in medical robotics, specializing in the development of high-fidelity training systems for airway management and swallowing rehabilitation. His most significant contributions include the creation of the WKA series of robotic airway management trainers (WKA-1R through WKA-4), which provide quantitative force feedback and can simulate various difficult airway cases—a critical advancement over traditional passive mannequins that only offer subjective assessment. Notably, Segawa also developed a robot capable of simulating the swallowing of food boluses with different properties, directly addressing the needs of patients with dysphagia.
