About
Mahesh Burse is an instrumentation scientist and observational astronomer whose work sits at the intersection of adaptive optics technology and stellar astrophysics. Best known for his contributions to the development of Robo-AO — the world's first robotic autonomous laser-guide-star adaptive optics system — Burse has helped democratize high-resolution astronomical imaging, making diffraction-limited observations practical for small-to-medium aperture telescopes. His most celebrated contribution is a large-scale survey of nearby solar-type binary stars using Robo-AO, probing the hierarchical multiplicity of F and G main-sequence systems; that work has accumulated 276 citations and remains a cornerstone reference in stellar multiplicity research.
