About
Luyun Liu is pioneering the next generation of intelligent soft robotics and electronic skin through innovative microfiber actuators. Their research focuses on creating materials that seamlessly integrate actuation, sensing, and environmental responsiveness—a critical challenge for autonomous soft robots. Liu’s most impactful work, the “Highly‐Aligned All‐Fiber Actuator with Asymmetric Photothermal‐Humidity Response and Autonomous Perceptivity” (47 citations), demonstrates a breakthrough in reconciling environment-triggered movement with self-powered sensing. This is complemented by their development of “Microfiber Actuators With Hot‐Pressing‐Programmable Mechano‐Photothermal Responses for Electromagnetic Perception” (22 citations), which enables dynamic detection of electromagnetic radiation—a ubiquitous environmental hazard. Liu has also advanced robust, all-fabric electronic skins capable of self-powered tactile sensing under extreme conditions, including high temperature and corrosion (19 citations). By engineering asymmetric nanofiber structures, they have created triboelectric e-skins with autonomous thermal perceptivity (10 citations).
