About

Driven by a profound commitment to restoring independence for individuals with paralysis, Lay Keng Priscilla Lim has made pioneering contributions to the field of brain-machine interfaces (BMIs). Her research focuses on developing wireless neural systems that translate brain signals into real-world mobility. In her landmark 2016 study, cited over 55 times, Lim demonstrated that macaques with tetraplegia could achieve independent mobility by using a wireless BMI to control a robotic platform on which they sat. This work marked a critical transition from stationary cursor control to self-directed, physical movement, directly addressing a core loss for those with severe motor impairments.
