About

Ka Chun Lau is a pioneering roboticist whose research centers on flexible surgical robotics for minimally invasive treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. His major contribution lies in developing robotic systems for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), a technique that removes early-stage gastric and colorectal cancers without open surgery. Lau’s most cited work, “A Flexible Surgical Robotic System for Removal of Early-Stage Gastrointestinal Cancers by Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection” (2016, 64 citations), addresses the critical challenge of limited instrument controllability in flexible endoscopy by introducing a multi-degree-of-freedom robotic platform capable of precise tissue elevation and dissection.
