About

Julien Nembrini is a pioneering researcher in swarm robotics and swarm engineering, whose work has fundamentally shaped our understanding of how to build robust, decentralized multi-robot systems. His landmark 2006 paper, "Safety in numbers: fault-tolerance in robot swarms" (146 citations), critically examined the often-unquestioned assumption that swarms are inherently robust, providing the first rigorous empirical and theoretical analysis of swarm fault-tolerance. This work laid the foundation for a new discipline of swarm engineering, which he formally proposed in his 2005 paper "Towards Dependable Swarms" (78 citations).
