About
Jacob Rogatinsky is pioneering the next generation of soft robotics for minimally invasive cardiac and surgical interventions. His research centers on developing compliant, dexterous robotic systems that overcome the fundamental limitations of conventional rigid catheters—namely, poor distal control, low force application, and inadequate compliance within dynamic anatomical environments. Rogatinsky’s most impactful contribution, the multifunctional soft robot for cardiac interventions (94 citations), directly addresses the extreme challenges of operating inside a beating heart, offering unprecedented maneuverability and safety. He further advanced the field with a soft robotic modular laparoscopic grasper for atraumatic intestinal retraction and a beating-heart procedure using soft robotic guidance for cardiac resynchronization therapy. Most recently, his work on soft robotic delivery of coiled anchors demonstrates a novel approach to complex intracardiac tasks. By combining soft material actuation with precise, patient-safe force profiles, Rogatinsky is redefining what is possible in endovascular surgery, promising to reduce procedural risks and expand treatment options for high-risk patients.
