About
Hiroyuki Miura is a pioneering researcher in bio-inspired robotics, with a career spanning over three decades. His work uniquely bridges biology and engineering, focusing on insect-modeled microrobots, flexible manipulators, and biomimetic locomotion. Miura’s most influential contribution is the use of living insect antennae—specifically from the male silk moth (*Bombyx mori*)—as biological gas sensors for robot steering control. His 2002 paper on this topic, with 91 citations, demonstrated how a few pheromone molecules could guide a mobile robot, achieving sensitivity far beyond artificial sensors.
