About
Guotian Yang’s research lies at the intersection of robotics, computer vision, and intelligent control, with a primary focus on inspection robots for critical infrastructure such as power substations, cable tunnels, and transmission towers. Yang has made significant contributions to visual localization and SLAM, developing a novel approach that combines image retrieval with multi-view geometry to enable metric localization in visually ambiguous substation environments—a key challenge for autonomous inspection. This work, along with a comprehensive review of visual odometry in SLAM, has helped shape the field’s understanding of robust robot navigation.
