About
Gun Yoon’s research bridges two distinct fields: minimally invasive gynecologic oncology surgery and modular personal robotics. In surgery, Yoon pioneered a novel technique for robotic high para-aortic lymph node dissection (PALND) using high port placement that allows the same ports to be used for both pelvic and para-aortic procedures in cervical and endometrial cancer patients. This work, published in 2015, has accumulated 7 citations and represents an important technical refinement that reduces operative time and port-site morbidity. In robotics, Yoon contributed foundational middleware architecture for module-based personal robots, proposing a two-layer structure—application management and network adaptation—that enables real-time services across heterogeneous networks.
