About
Fengwei Huo is pioneering the next generation of wearable electronics and electronic skin (e-skin) through innovative hydrogel and bio-inspired material design. His research centers on developing stretchable, breathable, and multimodal sensors that overcome critical limitations in signal interference, mechanical mismatch with skin, and environmental adaptability. Huo’s most influential work includes the creation of a highly stretchable and transparent thermistor based on a self-healing double network hydrogel (209 citations), which combines thermal sensitivity with remarkable mechanical resilience. He further advanced the field with a breathable, self-calibrated multimodal e-skin using hydrogel microstructures (140 citations), enabling wireless wearables with reduced signal crosstalk. His leather-based strain sensor with hierarchical structure (59 citations) demonstrates innovative use of natural materials for motion monitoring. Huo’s recent contributions integrate artificial intelligence with hardware-supported e-skins for environmental object recognition and wireless toxic gas alarms (57 citations), addressing critical needs in post-earthquake rescue missions. His work on conformal bioadhesive hydrogel wristbands for sign language translation and human-machine interactions (2025) exemplifies the translational potential of his research. With over 490 citations across his top papers, Huo is establishing himself as a leading innovator in soft robotics, intelligent prosthetics, and wearable health monitoring.
