Fanfan Zhang is a multidisciplinary researcher whose work spans robotics control systems and the economics of automation and labor markets. Early in their career, Zhang made significant technical contributions to robotics, most notably through foundational work on tracking control of robot manipulators with bounded torque inputs (1999), which has garnered over 112 citations and remains a landmark study in adaptive control theory. This research introduced innovative full-state feedback and output feedback controllers capable of achieving semi-global asymptotic link position tracking — a meaningful advance for precision robotics.
