About
Dmitry I. Larionov is a materials scientist whose research focuses on the development of sustainable and responsive polymers for soft robotics and actuator technologies. His work bridges green chemistry and advanced functional materials, with a particular emphasis on creating elastomers and hydrogels that can be activated by electrical stimuli. In his highly cited 2023 paper on sustainable elastomers for actuators, Larionov systematically reviewed “green” synthetic approaches for polyurethanes, silicones, and acrylic elastomers—materials critical for soft robot development—highlighting their mechanical and electrical properties. His most impactful contribution to date is the novel preparation of linear actuators based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogels activated by AC voltage, where he introduced an innovative activation mechanism that enables fast ionic electroactive polymer response. This work addresses a pressing need for rapid, efficient actuation in biomedical and robotic applications. With over 26 citations across his key publications, Larionov is establishing himself as an emerging voice in sustainable soft matter engineering, advancing both the fundamental science and practical design of next-generation, environmentally conscious actuators.
