About
Dean F. Hougen is a pioneering researcher in distributed robotics, multi-agent systems, and autonomous mobile platforms, whose foundational work has shaped how teams of heterogeneous robots are designed, coordinated, and deployed in real-world scenarios. He is perhaps best known for his development of the "Scout and Ranger" architecture — a hierarchical robotic system in which miniature scout robots, remarkable for their extraordinarily compact form factor of roughly 116 cubic centimeters, are deployed and managed by larger ranger platforms for reconnaissance and surveillance missions.
