About

Daniel Garcia-Gonzalez is a materials scientist and computational mechanician whose research sits at the dynamic intersection of smart materials, multiphysics modelling, and advanced manufacturing. He has established himself as a leading voice in the rapidly evolving field of magneto-active polymers (MAPs) and magnetorheological elastomers (MREs), developing rigorous theoretical frameworks — including magneto-visco-hyperelastic models — that capture the complex coupled mechanical, magnetic, and rate-dependent behaviours of these materials. His 2021 review on hard-magnetic soft composites (188 citations) has become an essential reference for researchers entering the field, while his experimental and modelling contributions to MREs have deepened understanding of how microstructural features compete with macroscopic responses. Beyond magnetic materials, Garcia-Gonzalez has made notable contributions to 3D-printed multifunctional composites, demonstrating how conductive PLA systems integrate mechanical, electrical, and thermal performance — work that has attracted over 150 citations. More recently, he has extended his expertise to architected structures and ultra-soft magnetoactive systems with promising bioengineering applications. With a growing citation portfolio spanning fundamental theory to applied innovation, his research is shaping the next generation of soft robotics, biomedical devices, and adaptive smart structures.
