Damith C. Ranasinghe is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of autonomous robotics and wildlife conservation, with a particular focus on developing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems for real-time animal tracking and habitat monitoring. His most celebrated contribution, the TrackerBots system, introduced a groundbreaking framework enabling autonomous quadcopter drones to localize and track multiple radio-tagged animals simultaneously — a capability that fundamentally transforms how ecologists gather behavioral and spatial data on endangered species.
