About

Chih-Yen Chen is a leading researcher at the intersection of intelligent automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), and service robotics. His work fundamentally addresses the logistical and interactive challenges of modern commerce. Chen’s most significant contribution is a pioneering IoT-based automated e-fulfillment packaging system, for which he developed a novel three-dimensional adaptive particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. This work, cited over 50 times, provides a computationally efficient solution to the complex problem of optimizing package arrangement in real-time, directly impacting the speed and cost-effectiveness of online retail logistics. Beyond warehouse automation, Chen has made notable strides in human-robot interaction with his design and implementation of a prototype service robot for supermarkets. This robot, capable of accompanying customers and retrieving items from shelves, demonstrates a practical vision for assistive technology in retail environments. By tackling both the physical optimization of packaging and the social dynamics of service, Chih-Yen Chen is shaping a future where intelligent systems seamlessly support the entire consumer experience, from order fulfillment to in-store assistance.
