A. A. Belinsky is a pioneering Russian astrophysicist whose work centers on robotic telescope systems and the rapid optical observation of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). As the principal architect of the MASTER (Mobile Astronomical System of Telescope-Robots) network, Belinsky led the development of Russia’s first fully robotic telescope, designed to respond autonomously to transient cosmic events. This system, deployed near Moscow and linked via the internet, achieved a landmark breakthrough by capturing the world’s first optical emissions of GRB 050824 and GRB 060926—observations that were previously elusive due to their fleeting nature. These pioneering data, combined with later follow-ups, established a critical brightness decay law for GRB afterglows. Belinsky’s most cited work, the 2004 paper introducing MASTER, has garnered 28 citations, while subsequent studies on GRB and supernova searches continue to influence rapid-response astronomy. By enabling near-instantaneous, robotic follow-up of high-energy events, Belinsky has fundamentally advanced our ability to probe the universe’s most violent explosions, bridging the gap between satellite alerts and ground-based optical confirmation.
