About
Xuecheng Zhou is a robotics researcher whose work focuses on the design and locomotion of planetary rovers for extreme terrain exploration. His most notable contribution is the development of the Axel rover, a lightweight, two-wheeled vehicle engineered to access steep slopes and navigate large obstacles using an actively managed tether. In his seminal 2010 paper, "Axel rover paddle wheel design, efficiency, and sinkage on deformable terrain," Zhou investigated the rover's novel paddle wheel geometry, analyzing its efficiency and sinkage on loose, deformable surfaces.
