About

Xuchong Zhang is a robotics researcher whose work bridges human-robot interaction and parallel mechanism design. His primary research areas include natural gesture control, humanoid manipulation, and dynamic analysis of robotic systems with joint clearances. Zhang’s most influential contribution is his pioneering work on natural gesture control of Delta parallel robots using the Leap Motion controller, demonstrating that touchless optical sensors can effectively command non-serial robots for intuitive human-robot interaction. This paper, his most cited with 12 citations, addresses a critical gap in HRI research by extending natural control beyond serial robots. He has also advanced the field of anthropomorphic manipulation, developing methods for a 7-DOF manipulator to imitate human-like planar grasping motions, thereby improving interaction efficiency. Additionally, Zhang’s work on dynamic analysis of 3-RRR parallel robots with joint clearances introduced a novel natural coordinate system that reduces computational complexity in contact detection. His research, while still early in citation impact, lays important groundwork for more intuitive and efficient robotic systems, particularly in applications requiring safe, natural human-robot collaboration.
