About
Xifan Fu is pioneering the next generation of electronic skin (e-skin) and intelligent wearables, with a core focus on stretchable, self-powered sensors that mimic human haptic perception. His major contributions lie in developing advanced hydrogel-based materials that simultaneously detect temperature and pressure, overcoming the critical challenge of maintaining functionality under tensile deformation. His most cited work, a 2022 study on stretchable and self-powered temperature–pressure dual sensing ionic skins using thermogalvanic hydrogels, has garnered 56 citations and demonstrates a breakthrough in creating truly multifunctional tactile sensors. Building on this, his 2023 paper on ultra-stretchable hydrogel thermocouples for intelligent wearables (31 citations) further advances the field by enabling robust thermal sensing in highly deformable formats. Most recently, his 2025 work on ultrathin hydrogel e-skin achieves high-resolution thermal and tactile haptics, addressing the longstanding limitation of spatial resolution in array-based sensors. Collectively, Fu’s research is driving the development of smart artificial intelligence and robotic systems that can feel and respond to their environment with unprecedented fidelity.
