About

Song Qiu is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of molecular communications, advanced robotics, and additive manufacturing. Her work addresses fundamental challenges in nano-scale and macro-scale systems, from designing error-correction codes for mobile molecular communications between nanorobots to developing long-range underwater localization using molecular messaging—contributions that have garnered over 36 and 21 citations, respectively. Qiu’s research also extends to industrial automation, where she has architected real-time field bus systems for multi-motor servo platforms and high-precision FPGA-based controllers, enabling synchronized, intelligent motion in applications ranging from electric vehicles to robotics. Notably, she has advanced design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) by developing topology optimization techniques for 3D-printable metallic hollow structures, including self-supporting designs for wire arc additive manufacturing, and has explored robotic 3D printing of formwork for shell structures. Her work bridges theoretical innovation with practical implementation, earning recognition for its impact on both emerging molecular communication paradigms and tangible manufacturing technologies.
