About
Rongyu Tang is a researcher at the forefront of neural engineering and human-machine interaction, with a primary focus on developing intuitive, bidirectional interfaces for prosthetic control. Tang’s work uniquely bridges the gap between neural signal acquisition and intelligent robotic actuation. A key contribution is the development of a novel neural interfacing electrode array capable of both electrical stimulation and simultaneous recording of EEG, EMG, and ENG signals, enabling a true dialogue between the nervous system and electromechanical devices. To decode these signals, Tang pioneered a gesture recognition system using a multi-attention mechanism on sEMG data (30 citations), significantly improving the accuracy of remote control commands. Furthermore, addressing the challenge of dexterous manipulation, Tang introduced a continuous shared control framework for prosthetic hands. By applying Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient with Hindsight Experience Replay, this work allows amputees to leverage their natural planning abilities for reaching while the AI autonomously refines precise, force-sensitive finger movements. Through these innovations, Tang is advancing the feasibility of seamless, intelligent prosthetics that restore both function and intuitive control.
