Robin Wait is a pioneering figure in redox proteomics and cartilage biology, whose work has fundamentally advanced our understanding of oxidative stress and joint disease. His research centers on protein post-translational modifications—particularly cysteine oxidation—and the application of mass spectrometry to complex biological tissues. Wait’s landmark 2004 study, cited 188 times, introduced diagonal electrophoresis to map widespread intermolecular disulfide formation during cardiac oxidative stress, revealing how reversible cysteine modifications like S-glutathiolation and sulfenic acid formation regulate protein function. He further developed key tools for this field, including the use of N,N-biotinyl glutathione disulfide to study protein S-glutathiolation (124 citations), providing a method to capture this elusive modification under oxidant load. In parallel, Wait made seminal contributions to osteoarthritis research.
