About

Qiyan Yin is a materials chemist whose research centers on the design of smart, shape-morphing polymer materials. Her work focuses on harnessing dynamic metal-ligand coordination chemistry to create films and bilayers that can autonomously and reversibly transform from two-dimensional sheets into complex three-dimensional shapes in response to external stimuli such as light or chemical cues. This capability is critical for next-generation applications in soft robotics, biomedical devices, and adaptive sensors. In her most cited work (2022, 21 citations), Yin introduced a novel strategy using Eu³⁺-iminodiacetate coordination to achieve programmable 3D shape transformation in polymer films. A second highly cited study (2022, 11 citations) extended this approach to Fe³⁺-containing bilayer systems, enabling phototunable and reconfigurable morphing into complex geometries.
