About
Peter Hsueh is a leading researcher in cancer glycobiology, with a primary focus on glycan-based biomarkers for the early detection of pancreatic cancer. His major contributions center on the discovery and characterization of alternative glycan motifs, such as sialyl-Lewis X (sLeX), that can serve as diagnostic markers in patients whose tumors do not express the standard CA19-9 (sialyl-Lewis A) antigen. In his highly cited 2015 study (45 citations), Hsueh demonstrated that plasma sLeX levels are significantly elevated in pancreatic cancers that are negative for sLeA, offering a critical new avenue for diagnosing the ~25% of patients missed by current assays.
