Pan Jiang is a materials scientist and engineer whose research sits at the dynamic intersection of advanced hydrogel design, 3D/4D printing, and soft robotics. His work has fundamentally advanced the mechanical performance of hydrogels—materials historically limited by poor strength and toughness—by engineering sophisticated cross-linking architectures. His landmark 2020 paper on dual-physical cross-linking hydrogels (183 citations) demonstrated that ultrahigh-strength, tough hydrogels could be successfully 3D printed, a breakthrough with broad implications for biomedical devices and flexible electronics. Building on this, his 2022 study on strain-induced microphase separation (131 citations) unlocked supramolecular hydrogels of unprecedented toughness, inspiring new biomimetic design strategies.
