About
Neng-Huei Lin is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on the transport, composition, and radiative impacts of aerosols over East and Southeast Asia. His work is central to understanding how biomass burning—particularly from springtime fires in Myanmar and Southeast Asia—affects air quality and climate across the region. Lin’s most cited study (95 citations) models the long-range transport of these smoke aerosols to Taiwan, using data from the high-altitude Lulin Atmospheric Background Station to quantify their radiative forcing. He also pioneered satellite-based methods to estimate ground-level PM2.5 in eastern China using aerosol optical depth from the GOCI satellite (82 citations), a critical tool for air quality monitoring. His field campaigns at Doi Ang Khang, Thailand, and his long-term analyses of AERONET data have advanced the classification of aerosol types and the retrieval of key optical properties like lidar ratio.
