About

Somporn Chantara is a leading environmental scientist whose research focuses on the atmospheric chemistry of biomass burning aerosols in Southeast Asia, a region critically impacted by seasonal haze. Her work is foundational in understanding how smoke from agricultural and forest fires—particularly from Myanmar and northern Thailand—affects air quality and climate. In her highly cited 2015 study, she led a major field campaign at Doi Ang Khang, deploying a suite of instruments to characterize smoke plumes and validating satellite data from the AERONET network.
