About

Driven by the global rise in aging populations and the growing demand for effective rehabilitation, Mitsuyuki Yamada has pioneered the integration of robotics and data science into physical therapy. His research centers on developing physical therapy robots and constructing cloud-based rehabilitation databases to enable quantitative, data-driven patient assessment. Yamada’s major contributions include proposing a novel methodology for measuring upper limb Range of Motion (ROM) using a rehabilitation robot, which replaces subjective, time-consuming manual evaluations with precise, 2‑dimensional quantitative data. He further advanced the field by exploring haptic signal processing to enrich rehabilitation databases, leveraging cloud computing and big data to uncover new insights into patient recovery. His foundational work, “Development of a physical therapy robot for rehabilitation databases,” has garnered 25 citations, while his ROM measurement study has been cited 14 times, reflecting the growing interest in automated, objective rehabilitation tools. By merging medical cloud technologies with robotic assessment, Yamada has laid the groundwork for a new validation paradigm in physical therapy, offering a scalable, data-rich approach that promises to transform how therapists monitor and enhance patient outcomes.
