About

Maya Lassiter is a pioneer in the emerging field of microscopic robotics, where her work is redefining the limits of miniaturization and on-board intelligence. Her primary research areas span ultra-low-power CMOS system design, energy harvesting, and integrated sensing, processing, and actuation at the sub-millimeter scale. Lassiter’s landmark 2022 paper introduced a complete \(210 \times 340 \times 50 \mu m\) integrated CMOS system for micro-robots—a system that, despite its vanishingly small size, includes energy harvesting, sensing, processing, communication, and actuation. This work, cited 11 times, represents a foundational step toward truly autonomous micro-robots. Building on this, her 2025 paper, "Microscopic robots that sense, think, act, and compute" (7 citations), directly confronts the long-standing challenge of preserving on-board information processing at sub-millimeter dimensions, where conventional physics often forces trade-offs. By demonstrating that a microrobot can simultaneously sense, compute, and act without sacrificing intelligence, Lassiter has opened a new frontier in robotics. Her achievements are not merely incremental; they are paradigm-shifting, promising a future where swarms of intelligent, autonomous micro-robots could perform tasks from targeted drug delivery to environmental monitoring.
