About

Xiao Wu is a rising innovator in the field of advanced functional ceramics and biomimetic soft robotics, with a research focus on developing eco-friendly, lead-free piezoelectric materials and smart responsive systems. Wu’s most impactful work involves tailoring the microstructure of temperature-insensitive transparent ceramics to achieve superior piezoelectricity, a breakthrough that addresses the long-standing trade-off between optical transparency and electromechanical performance. This work, published in 2022 with 39 citations, has opened new avenues for applications in photoacoustic imaging and transparent robotics. Building on this, Wu extended the concept to force-sensitive smart windows, demonstrating how lead-free KNN ceramics can be engineered for next-generation interactive surfaces. More recently, Wu has ventured into biomimetic design, creating a soft actuator that achieves efficient fluorescence through covalent cross-linking—a concept inspired by deep-sea bioluminescence. Though early in citation impact, this work highlights Wu’s versatility and ambition to merge materials science with bioinspired robotics. With a growing portfolio that bridges sustainability, transparency, and actuation, Xiao Wu is establishing a distinctive voice in the development of intelligent, environmentally benign materials for future technologies.
