About
Mark Tischler is a leading authority in rotorcraft flight dynamics, guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), with a career spanning over three decades at the U.S. Army Aviation Development Directorate. His seminal contributions center on the development and practical application of system identification techniques for rotary-wing aircraft, most notably through his widely adopted software tool, CIFER® (Comprehensive Identification from FrEquency Responses). Tischler’s work has fundamentally advanced how engineers model and optimize the handling qualities of both manned helicopters and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). His research has directly shaped the flight control architectures for numerous military platforms, including the RAH-66 Comanche and the UH-60M Black Hawk. With over 100 technical publications accumulating thousands of citations, his 2017 overview of the Quadrotor GNC project exemplifies his ongoing influence on small-scale multi-rotor UAS for missions ranging from package delivery to surveillance. A Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and recipient of the prestigious Alexander Klemin Award, Tischler remains a pivotal figure bridging theoretical flight dynamics with real-world aviation innovation.
