M. Mizukawa is a robotics researcher whose work spans industrial automation, robot networking standards, and service robotics. Best known for pioneering the Open Robot Interface for the Network (ORiN), Mizukawa led efforts to standardize network middleware enabling unified API access across industrial robots, factory automation devices, and equipment — work that garnered over 70 citations across multiple publications and became foundational to Japan Robot Association (JARA) standardization initiatives. This contribution addressed a critical interoperability gap in factory automation systems by applying established PC and telecommunications infrastructure technologies to robotic environments.
