Jeffrey S. Norris is a pioneering figure in planetary mission operations and robotic telepresence, whose work has fundamentally reshaped how scientists and engineers interact with spacecraft and rovers across vast interplanetary distances. His most significant contribution came with the Mars Polar Lander mission, where he led the first-ever use of Internet-based distributed ground operations, enabling geographically dispersed teams to collaborate in real-time for daily mission planning—a paradigm shift documented in his most cited paper (51 citations).
