About
Jeffrey Harris is a leading head and neck surgeon whose work has advanced the frontiers of minimally invasive oncologic surgery and complex reconstruction. His primary research focuses on integrating transoral robotic surgery (TORS) with microvascular free flap reconstruction, a paradigm that challenges the traditional, morbid approach of lip-splitting mandibulotomy for large oropharyngeal tumors. In a landmark 2017 case-control analysis (56 citations), Harris demonstrated that TORS combined with radial forearm free flap reconstruction can achieve comparable oncologic outcomes while dramatically reducing surgical morbidity and hospital stays. This work has helped redefine the standard of care for patients with advanced oropharyngeal cancers, offering them a less disfiguring path to recovery. Beyond this signature contribution, Harris has published extensively on optimizing surgical techniques and improving functional outcomes after head and neck cancer treatment. His research, which has accumulated hundreds of citations, is widely recognized for its practical impact on surgical practice and patient quality of life. A sought-after collaborator and educator, Harris continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in robotic head and neck surgery, making him a pivotal figure in the field.
