About
Hongyu Yu is a researcher working at the intersection of flexible electronics, semiconductor device reliability, and advanced sensing technologies. Yu's work spans two distinct but complementary domains: wearable and flexible pressure sensing systems, and the thermal characterization of wide-bandgap power semiconductors. In the area of flexible electronics, Yu has made notable contributions to the development of high-performance piezoresistive sensors. A standout achievement is the innovative half-encapsulated rigid microsphere array architecture, designed to simultaneously enhance sensitivity, stability, and operational range in flexible pressure sensors — addressing longstanding fabrication challenges critical to wearable devices and next-generation robotics. This work has already garnered 9 citations since its 2023 publication, reflecting rapid community interest. Yu has also advanced the reliability engineering of Gallium Nitride High-Electron-Mobility Transistors (GaN HEMTs), proposing a self-calibrating Temperature-Sensitive Electrical Parameter (TSEP) methodology for junction temperature monitoring and remaining useful life prediction — a timely contribution given GaN's growing role in AI power supplies and robotics applications. Collectively, Yu's research addresses pressing engineering challenges in smart sensing and power electronics, positioning their work as highly relevant to the evolving landscape of intelligent, energy-efficient systems.
