E. S. Saunders is a pioneering figure in robotic telescope networks and time-domain astronomy, whose career has centered on transforming how astronomers access and coordinate observational resources across the globe. Best known for contributions to the RoboNet-II project — a multi-telescope network enabling automated follow-up of gravitational microlensing events in the Galactic Bulge, which has garnered over 100 citations — Saunders has consistently pushed the boundaries of observatory automation and intelligent scheduling. As a key contributor to the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope (LCOGT) network, Saunders helped develop novel scheduling algorithms and science operations frameworks for a worldwide array of robotic telescopes, enabling observing modes previously impossible with conventional facilities.
