Cigdem Caglayan is a materials scientist whose research focuses on the design and development of advanced self-healing polymer composites. Her work addresses a critical challenge in the field: overcoming the inherent trade-off between high mechanical stiffness and efficient self-healing capability. Caglayan’s major contributions include the creation of novel epoxy-based dynamic networks that incorporate disulfide bond exchange chemistry, enabling materials to autonomously repair microcracks without the need for external catalysts.
