About
Dr. Chaofei Ma is a leading figure in satellite ocean color remote sensing, whose work is critical for understanding global carbon cycles and ocean-atmosphere interactions. His primary research focuses on vicarious calibration of space-borne ocean color sensors and the establishment of long-term, in-situ validation networks. Dr. Ma's most impactful contribution is the development of a vicarious calibration method for the COCTS-HY1C sensor, a foundational study that has garnered 31 citations for its role in ensuring accurate remote sensing reflectance data. Recognizing the need for robust ground-truthing, he spearheaded the deployment of two fixed validation platforms (Muping and Dong’ou) in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea. This pioneering infrastructure, detailed in his 2022 paper, provides the first long-term, high-quality optical radiometric data for the region, directly supporting the China National Satellite Ocean Application Service. By bridging the gap between satellite data and in-situ measurements, Dr. Ma's work is indispensable for the accurate retrieval of biogeochemical parameters and the ongoing validation of ocean color products, solidifying his reputation as a key architect of China's ocean remote sensing capabilities.
