About
Alexander Revzin is a biomedical engineer and bioscientist whose work sits at the intersection of microfabrication, cell biology, and biosensing. Best known for pioneering techniques in cellular micropatterning and protein microarraying, Revzin has made transformative contributions to how researchers design and control cellular microenvironments in vitro. His 2004 landmark study combining robotic protein printing with poly(ethylene glycol) photolithography to engineer hepatocellular microenvironments—garnering over 100 citations—established a foundational framework for creating defined co-cultures of primary hepatocytes and fibroblasts. Building on this work, Revzin and colleagues advanced the field by printing arrays of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and BMP7 to study liver cell behavior and model alcohol-induced injury, demonstrating real therapeutic relevance. His development of multifunctional protein microarrays capable of both cell cultivation and immunodetection of secreted products represents a particularly elegant innovation, bridging cell culture with integrated biosensing.
