Abstract
In application, robots often need hopping instruments to overleap the obstacles or ditches. However, wheeled and crawled robots cannot do this. This paper synthetically introduces and analyzes the current research, and illustrates the working mechanism of a hopping machine which is worked out by the authors. In addition to reviewing some of the key aspects of the design of hopping systems, this paper gives prospect of the developing trend.
