About
Zhenqiu Gao is a leading figure in the development of next-generation flexible electronics, with a primary focus on energy-autonomous sensing systems and advanced tactile interfaces. His most impactful work centers on creating electronic skins that can perceive environmental stimuli—such as temperature and pressure—without the need for external power sources. In his landmark 2022 paper, cited 97 times, Gao introduced an energy-autonomous electronic skin that directly transduces temperature and pressure into electrical signals, a breakthrough that eliminates the complexity of separate power and sensing modules. This work has significant implications for prosthetics, human-machine interaction, and wearable health monitors. Gao further advanced the field through his 2021 study on surface-microengineering for triboelectric tactile sensors, which achieved 48 citations by demonstrating a novel, dynamically assembled ferrofluid template method. This technique enables high-performance, low-cost fabrication of tactile sensors with exceptional sensitivity and durability. By merging principles of triboelectric nanogenerators with innovative material engineering, Gao’s research provides a scalable pathway toward truly self-powered, multifunctional electronic skins—paving the way for smarter, more intuitive devices that interact seamlessly with the human body.
