About
Zhengyi Fu is an emerging materials scientist whose research sits at the dynamic intersection of bioinspired materials, smart hydrogels, and wearable electronics. Drawing inspiration from natural biological systems—from oyster reefs to human skin—Fu has made significant contributions to the design and fabrication of multifunctional conductive hydrogels engineered for next-generation sensing technologies. His most influential work, "Bioinspired 3D Printable, Self-Healable, and Stretchable Hydrogels with Multiple Conductivities for Skin-like Wearable Strain Sensors" (2021, 191 citations), demonstrated how biomimetic design principles could yield hydrogels capable of mimicking the complex sensing properties of natural skin—a landmark achievement in the wearable devices field. Fu has further expanded this portfolio by developing economically viable fabrication strategies, including freeze-salting methods for polyvinyl alcohol/graphene oxide systems (60 citations), and bioprocess-inspired mineral hydrogels for ionic skin applications (50 citations). His recent exploration of Hofmeister effect-inspired MXene-based hydrogels reflects a growing sophistication in leveraging physicochemical phenomena to engineer robust, multifunctional materials. Collectively, Fu's work is shaping the future of flexible electronics, human health monitoring, and soft robotics.
