About

Zenglei Zhang is a leading researcher in the field of medical robotics, with a primary focus on the design and control of capsule robots for minimally invasive gastrointestinal exploration. His major contributions center on solving two critical challenges for these devices: stable power delivery and reliable locomotion within the complex, compliant environment of the human colon. To address the issue of unpredictable capsule attitude destabilizing power, Zhang proposed a novel wireless power transmission (WPT) system, detailed in his most-cited 2022 paper (42 citations), which ensures stable energy transfer. Furthermore, his work on a clamper-based capsule robot (CCR) and an inchworm-like capsule robot (ILCR) provides foundational analysis and design rules for achieving effective movement in nonstructural, compliant tubes. With over 76 total citations for his top three works, Zhang’s research is directly advancing the feasibility of tether-less, active capsule endoscopy, paving the way for more comfortable and thorough diagnostic procedures in the future.
