About

Dr. Yutong Xu is a pioneering researcher in the emerging field of bio-inspired organic electronics, with a primary focus on neuromorphic computing and sensory neural simulation. Her work bridges the gap between flexible electronics and artificial neural systems, addressing critical challenges in both high-temperature stability and mechanosensory perception. In her landmark 2023 study on organic high-temperature synaptic phototransistors, Xu demonstrated devices capable of reliable operation beyond 121°C—a breakthrough that has garnered 48 citations and opened new possibilities for biomedical implants and bionic robotics in extreme environments. Complementing this, her equally influential work on stretchable neuromorphic transistors for pain perception emulation (28 citations) represents a major advance in artificial nociceptor systems. By successfully mimicking the human body’s ability to detect destructive stimuli and spontaneously avoid injury, Xu has created foundational technology for next-generation neural sensors and prosthetics. Her research uniquely combines materials innovation with circuit-level neural emulation, positioning her as a rising leader in the development of energy-efficient, skin-like electronic systems that can sense, learn, and protect.
