About
Yunqi Xing is a rising researcher at the intersection of chemical biology, photoredox catalysis, and automated high-throughput experimentation. Their primary research focuses on developing novel photocatalytic methods for the precise modification of proteins and peptides, with a particular emphasis on lysine acylation—a critical reaction for studying protein function and developing bioconjugates. In their landmark 2024 work, "Photocatalytic acylation of lysine screened using a microfluidic-based chemical robotic system," Xing introduced an innovative approach that combines photoredox catalysis with a microfluidic-based chemical robotic system. This synergy allowed for rapid, high-throughput screening of reaction conditions, which were then optimized using a Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) model. This work not only demonstrates a powerful new tool for discovering optimal bioconjugation conditions but also showcases how automation and machine learning can accelerate synthetic methodology development. With 6 citations already in its first year, this paper is gaining traction as a pioneering example of integrating robotics and AI into chemical biology. Xing’s contributions are paving the way for more efficient, data-driven approaches to protein engineering and therapeutic development.
