About
Yunlong Fan is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of bio-inspired robotics and advanced drug delivery systems. His work spans two seemingly distinct fields—biomimetic locomotion and gastrointestinal medical devices—united by a focus on solving real-world challenges through innovative engineering. Fan’s most notable contribution is the development of a gastric retentive robotic capsule for emergency-prepared oral drug delivery. Demonstrated in canine models, this device enables long-term standby drug storage within the stomach and rapid, on-demand activation, addressing a critical gap in responsive medical interventions for emergencies. This work has already garnered attention with 6 citations shortly after its 2025 publication. Earlier, Fan made significant strides in underwater robotics, designing a leg–paddle hybrid crablike robot inspired by the swimming mechanics of Portunus trituberculatus. His research on floating gait planning and experimental validation (5 citations) advanced the understanding of multi-modal locomotion for amphibious robots. By bridging soft robotics, controlled release, and bionic design, Fan’s work holds promise for both healthcare and environmental exploration, marking him as an emerging leader in translational robotics.
