About
Yuanshi Kou is pioneering the next generation of minimally invasive medical interventions through the development of intelligent, magnetically controlled microrobots. His primary research areas span magnetic soft robotics, autonomous navigation, and real-time medical imaging for robotic embolization. Kou’s most impactful contribution is the creation of "magnetic soft microfiberbots" for robotic embolization, a breakthrough paper garnering 165 citations that addresses life-threatening cerebral aneurysms and brain tumors by enabling precise, targeted occlusion of lesions. This work represents a significant leap beyond conventional embolization techniques. Additionally, Kou is advancing the field by integrating artificial intelligence for learning-based, intelligent trajectory planning, allowing magnetic robots to navigate autonomously and reducing the need for human intervention during surgery. To solve the critical challenge of real-time tracking, he has also developed multi-frequency dual-echo magnetic resonance imaging, enabling artifact-free navigation of these robots within MRI systems. By combining soft robotics, AI-driven control, and advanced imaging, Yuanshi Kou is laying the groundwork for safer, more precise, and fully autonomous robotic surgeries that could transform the treatment of vascular and neurological diseases.
